  • Experimental Realization of Entanglement Concentration and a Quantum Repeater

      We report an experimental realization of entanglement concentration using two polarization-entangled photon pairs produced by pulsed parametric down-conversion. In the meantime, our setup also provides a proof-in-principle demonstration of a quantum repeater. The quality of our procedure is verified by observing a violation of Bell’s inequality by more than 5 standard deviations. The high experimental accuracy achieved in the experiment implies that the requirement of tolerable error rate in multistage realization of quantum repeaters can be fulfilled, hence providing a useful toolbox for quantum communication over large distances.

  • 1.25 GHz sine wave gating InGaAs/InP single-photon detector with a monolithically integrated readout circuit

      InGaAs/InP single-photon detectors (SPDs) are the key devices for applications requiring near-infrared single-photon detection. The gating mode is an effective approach to synchronous single-photon detection. Increasing gating frequency and reducing the module size are important challenges for the design of such a detector system. Here we present for the first time, to the best of our knowledge, an InGaAs/InP SPD with 1.25 GHz sine wave gating (SWG) using a monolithically integrated readout circuit (MIRC). The MIRC has a size of 15 mm × 15 mm and implements the miniaturization of avalanche extraction for high-frequency SWG. In the MIRC, low-pass filters and a low-noise radio frequency amplifier are integrated based on the technique of low temperature co-fired ceramic, which can effectively reduce the parasitic capacitance and extract weak avalanche signals. We then characterize the InGaAs/InP SPD to verify the functionality and reliability of the MIRC, and the SPD exhibits excellent performance with 27.5% photon detection efficiency, a 1.2 kcps dark count rate, and 9.1% afterpulse probability at 223 K and 100 ns hold-off time. With this MIRC, one can further design miniaturized high-frequency SPD modules that are highly required for practical applications.

  • Stent, balloon-assisted coiling and double microcatheter for treating wide-neck aneurysms in anterior cerebral circulation

      Objective: To investigate the clinical application of adjuvant coiling techniques in treating anterior-circulation wide-necked aneurysms. Methods: Over 4.5 years, 93 anterior-circulation wide-neck aneurysms in 81 patients were treated with different endovascular techniques: balloon-assisted, stent-assisted, and double-microcatheter coiling. Demographic, clinical, and angiographic data were reviewed retrospectively. Results: Of the 93 aneurysms, 45 were treated using stent, 28 using balloon, and 20 using double microcatheter. The proportion of ruptured aneurysms was significantly lower in the stent group (53.3%) than in the balloon (71.4%) or the double-microcatheter group (75%). Stent embolization was used for 61.1% of aneurysms located in the internal carotid artery, whereas aneurysms in the anterior communicating and middle cerebral arteries were mainly treated with balloon remodeling (42.9%) and double microcatheter (52.4%). The majority of aneurysms with neck ≥ 7 mm (87.5%) and all aneurysms with a dome/neck ratio, < 1.0 (100%) were treated by stent-assisted coiling. For aneurysms with neck, < 4 mm, the mean dome/neck ratio was 0.93 in the stent group, 1.08 in the balloon group, and 1.16 in the double-microcatheter group. Total occlusion was achieved in 21 cases (46.7%), with the rates for stent being significantly lower than for balloon (78.6%) or double microcatheter (75.0%). Clinical outcome was favorable in 73 cases (Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS) 4-5) and fair in 4 (GOS 3), while 2 were severely disabled (GOS 2) and 2 others died (GOS 1). Conclusion: Double microcatheter was better for distal aneurysms with dome/neck ratio of 1.1-1.2, while stent was better for proximal aneurysms with an extremely wide neck (≥ 7 mm) and for loudspeaker-shaped aneurysms (dome/neck ratio, < 1.0) with poor vessel condition. For emergency cases, both balloon remodeling and double microcatheter are better choices than stent.

  • Temperature-dependent mollow triplet spectra from a single quantum dot

      We investigate temperature-dependent resonance fluorescence spectra obtained from a single self-assembled quantum dot. A decrease of the Mollow triplet sideband splitting is observed with increasing temperature, an effect we attribute to a phonon-induced renormalization of the driven dot Rabi frequency. We also present first evidence for a nonperturbative regime of phonon coupling, in which the expected linear increase in sideband linewidth as a function of temperature is canceled by the corresponding reduction in Rabi frequency. These results indicate that dephasing in semiconductor quantum dots may be less sensitive to changes in temperature than expected from a standard weak-coupling analysis of phonon effects.

  • Long noncoding RNA MEG3 mediated angiogenesis after cerebral infarction through regulating p53/NOX4 axis

      Objective This study aimed to explore the mechanism of lncRNA MEG3 on angiogenesis after cerebral infarction (CI). Methods The rat brain microvascular endothelial cells (RBMVECs) isolated from rat was used to establish CI model, which were treated with oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation (OGD/R). The genes mRNA and protein expression levels in RBMVECs were determined by the quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blot, respectively. The flow cytometry was used to measured cell apoptosis and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. The RBMVECs activities was detected by MTT method. The RNA-immunoprecipitation (RIP) assay was used to detect the interaction between MEG3 and p53, and the relationship between p53 and NOX4 was proved by chromatin co-immunoprecipitation (chip) assay. Results The results showed that OGD or OGD/R increased MEG3 and NOX4 expression, and there was positive correlation between MEG3 and NOX4 expression in RBMVECs. Next, knockdown of MEG3 indicated that inhibition of MEG3 was conducive to protect RBMVECs against OGD/R-induced apoptosis, with decreased NOX4 and p53 expression, further enhanced pro-angiogenic factors (HIF-1α and VEGF) expression, and reduced intracellular ROS generation. And then the RIP and CHIP assay demonstrated that MEG3 could interacted with p53 and regulated its expression, and p53 exerted significant binding in the promoters for NOX4, suggesting that MEG3 regulated NOX4 expression via p53. At last, knockdown of NOX4 indicated that inhibition of NOX4 protected RBMVECs against OGD/R-induced apoptosis, with increased cell viability and pro-angiogenic factors expression, and reduced ROS generation. Conclusion LncRNA MEG3 was an important regulator in OGD/R induced-RBMVECs apoptosis and the mechanism of MEG3 on angiogenesis after CI was reduced ROS by p53/NOX4 axis.

  • Multiphoton Graph States from a Solid-State Single-Photon Source

      Photonic graph states are underlying resources for one-way optical quantum computation, quantum error correction, fundamental testing of quantum mechanics, and quantum communication networks. Most existing works, however, are based on the spontaneous parametric down-conversion sources that intrinsically suffer from probabilistic generation and double pair components. Here, we create two important classes of graph states, a polarization-encoded four-photon Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger (GHZ) state and a linear cluster state, by actively demultiplexing a deterministic single-photon source from a semiconductor quantum dot embedded in a micropillar. A state fidelity of 0.790 ± 0.009 (0.763 ± 0.004) and a count rate of a13 Hz are observed for the four-photon GHZ (cluster) state. The results constitute a new route toward the multiphoton entanglement with deterministic single-photon sources.

  • Robust creation of entanglement between remote memory qubits

    • 摘要:

      In this Letter we propose a robust quantum repeater architecture building on the original Duan-Lukin-Cirac-Zoller (DLCZ) protocol. The architecture is based on two-photon Hong-Ou-Mandel-type interference which relaxes the long-distance stability requirements by about 7 orders of magnitude, from subwavelength for the single photon interference required by DLCZ to the coherence length of the photons. Our proposal provides an exciting possibility for robust and realistic long-distance quantum communication.

  • Experimental realization of entanglement concentration and a quantum repeater

      Entanglement concentration was experimentally realized using two polarization-entangled photon pairs produced by pulsed parametric down-conversion. It was confirmed that the requirement of tolerable error rate in multistage realization of quantum repeaters can be fulfilled.

  • Bell inequality tests of four-photon six-qubit graph states

    • 摘要:

      We now experimentally demonstrate a Y-shaped graph state with photons' polarization and spatial modes as qubits. Based on this state and a linear-type graph state, we report on the experimental realization of two different Bell inequality tests, which represent higher violation than previous Bell tests.
