  • Effects of additives on the AgSnO2 contacts erosion behavior

      The switching performances of several improved silver tin-oxide materials with some kinds of additives, including WO3,Bi2O3,In2O3, were conducted in accelerated testing machine. Based on the experimental results and the observations of the contacts surface microstructure, the effects of additives on the silver tin-oxide contacts erosion behavior are mainly studied. It is indicated that the effects of additives on the wettability between liquid silver metal and the contact surface, the distribution and the thermal stability of additives are critical in the decision of erosion characteristics and the morphology feature of contact surface. The erosion behaviors of silver-tin oxide materials with different additives are compared, the doping effect on surface morphology is presented.

  • Simulation of the process of arc energy-effect in H.V. auto-expansion SF6 circuit breaker

      A new magnetic hydro-dynamics (MHD) model of arc in H.V. auto-expansion SF6 circuit breaker with considering thermal conduction is set up originally. In addition, the effect of PTFE vapor produced when the nozzle is burned by arc, is considered in the constructed model. Then, the gas flow fields with and without considering conduction are simulated. By comparing the aforementioned two results, the modes of arc heat transfer are deeply analyzed. According to the calculated results in this paper, it is indicated that the maximal temperature with conduction is 90 percent of that without conduction. At last, based on the use of arc energy, the effect of the parameters of arc chamber on breaking characteristics is studied.

  • Investigation of dielectric barrier discharge and dielectric barrier corona discharge in SO2 removal

      The dielectric barrier corona discharge (DBCD) in a wire-cylinder configuration and the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) in a coaxial cylinder configuration are investigated, then the dissipated power and gas gap voltage are calculated by analyzing the measured Lissajous figure. The researching results demonstrate that the discharge current in DBD has higher pulse amplitude than in DBCD, and with the increasing applied voltage, the energy utilization factor for SO2 removal increases in DBCD but decreases in DBD due to the difference in their electric field distribution. The experiments of SO2 removal verify that in the absence of NH3 the energy utilization factor can reach 31 g/kWh in DBCD and 39 g/kWh in DBD.

  • Research on removing NO2 from the air by non-thermal plasma

      NO2 in the air can directly hazard people's health and form acid rain. In order to resolve this problem, non-thermal plasma technology is used to remove NO2 from the air. The factors that affect the removal efficiency, such as the magnitude and the polarity of the pulsed voltage, the initial concentration of NO2, are experimentally investigated. The removal efficiency of positive pulse voltage is far higher than that of negative pulse voltage while other factors are same; the higher the peak-voltage is the higher removal efficiency will be with the increasing initial concentration of NO2 the removal efficiency will change as a non-monotonic curve which increases first and then decreases. It is novel that the magnetic field is applied to decompose NO2 from domestic air in this paper, and it can be concluded experimentally that the removal efficiency is improved significantly by applying magnetic field.

The effect of PTFE (polytetrafluorethylene) vapor is considered in the mass, momentum and energy conservation equations of the constructed model. Then, the gas flow fields with and without conduction considered are simulated. By comparing the aforementioned two results, it is indicated that the arc's maximal temperature with conduction considered is 90 percent of that without considering conduction.

  • High-current vacuum arc under axial magnetic field: Numerical simulation and comparisons with experiments

      Based on a magnetohydrodynamic model, a numerical simulation of high-current vacuum arc (HCVA) is carried out. In this model, the kinetic energy terms and ion viscosity terms in energy conservation equations are considered. Compared with the supersonic constricted vacuum arc, the ion flow in HCVA is in the subsonic status. Therefore, boundary conditions of cathode and anode sides have to be adjusted for HCVA. According to the simulation results of HCVA, we can find that the maximal plasma pressure appears near the cathode side. The characteristics of HCVA are significantly different from those of supersonic vacuum arc. Then, we make the comparisons between simulation results and experimental results (such as electron number density, electron temperature, ion temperature, high speed charge-coupled device photographs, and so on). The simulation results are in agreement with the experimental results. In addition, we also analyze the influence of different arc models on the distribution of current density in the anode side. © 2006 American Institute of Physics.

  • Method of quick fault diagnosis and new knowledge obtainment for high voltage circuit breaker expert system

      High voltage circuit breaker is one of the key parts of power system, quick fault diagnosis of circuit breaker is of important to the quick discover of the fault cause, solve the fault source, and make sure the rapidly recovery of power system. In this paper, an improved algorithm of general radial basis function neural network (RBFNN) is introduced, based on improved algorithm, the neural network realizes quick fault diagnosis and self-refresh of neural network, and the neural network is applied to the on-line fault diagnosis expert system. The expert system deal with the fault data that sent from on-line monitoring equipment by using neural network, and can discover the fault type and give reasonable solution by forward reasoning. Meanwhile, the expert system has the ability of achieving new knowledge based on the application of self-refresh ability of RBF neural network.
