  • Acoustooptic-dye double Q-switched laser: theory and experiments

      Based on respective features of acoustooptic Q-switching and dye Q-switching, this paper suggests an acoustooptic-dye double Q-switching laser to comprehensively make use of strong points of the above two separate types to equivalently shorten the switching duration of single acoustooptic Q-switching, and enhance the rate of change of system loss during switching, in order to achieve pulse output with high repetition rate and narrow width. Dynamic equations of double Q-switching system are established and solutions obtained. Effects of varying dye concentration, dye thickness, pumping strength and diffraction efficiency are investigated. Reasonable selection of these parameters is determinant to realize optimum laser output. Experimental results agree with the theory.
