Under global warming, severe heatwaves occur frequently, posing threats to human health and causing tremendous economic loss. Despite extensive research, heatwaves still remain events that have not reached a universal definition. Generally, hot days and hot nights are separated artificially. However, they may actually co-occur or occur sequentially. For heatwave events, is there a certain occurring sequence of hot days and hot nights? Has the prevalence of hot days and hot nights changed in the past decades across China? How do radiation and meteorological conditions as well as urbanization influence the occurrence of hot days and hot nights? For details, see the research paper by Ning AN et al. on pages 1262-1273.
