  • Novel redox-fluorescence switch based on a triad containing tetrathiafulvalene and pyrene units with tunable monomer and excimer emissions

      The ratio of monomer and excimer emissions of a triad 1 with tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) and pyrene units could be reversibly modulated by the different oxidation states of the TTF unit. The working mechanism of this new fluorescence switch was demonstrated to be the collective result of the tunable photoinduced electron transfer and resonance energy transfer processes.

  • Photophysical properties of a new C60-derivative and its composite with poly(3-dodecylthiophene)

      The experimental studies on photophysical properties of a new C60-derivative (2,2-dimethyl-5-spiro-cyclohexanyl-3,4-fulleropyrrolidine-1-oxyl) (DSCFPO) and its composite with poly(3-dodecylthiophene) (P3DDT) are presented. Good solubilities in organic solvents and good thin film formation capabilities are found. The quenching of photoluminescence in a composite thin film of the new C60-derivative and poly(3-dodecylthiophene) are observed, which could be due to the electron transfer from the polymer to the C60-derivative molecule. Transport properties of charge carriers of DSCFPO-doped P3DDT film are determined by the disorder effects induced in the polymer matrix by large DSCFPO molecules. The new C60-derivative can be considered as a promising acceptor photodopant in polymer composites because of its good solubility.

  • Both magnetic relaxation and luminescence of Zn2Dy2 cluster complexes regulated by the bis-imine chain in Schiff base ligands

      Two novel Zn2Dy2 Schiff base cluster complexes composed of [DyZn2(salen)2Cl2]+ and [Dy(bpdc)2]- complex-fragment building blocks (bpdc2- = 2,2′-bipyridine-6,6′-dicarboxylate) have been prepared, which exhibit interesting T-shaped metal cores and ferromagnetic interactions. Two-step magnetic relaxation was observed under a 1500 Oe dc field for both cluster complexes, and their effective energy barrier can be regulated by the bis-imine chain in the Schiff base. Complex 1, [Dy2Zn2(La)2(bpdc)2Cl2)]·3MeOH [H2La = N,N′-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)-1,3-diaminopropane], has the Ueff/k value of 20.2(0.3) K and the τ0 value of 6.7(0.2) × 10-8 s for the fast relaxation (FR) phase as well as the Ueff/k value of 243.2(4.9) K and the τ0 value of 6.0(0.3) × 10-10 s for the slow relaxation (SR) phase; while complex 2, [Dy2Zn2(Lb)2(bpdc)2Cl2)]·MeOH·H2O [H2Lb = N,N′-bis(3-methoxysalicylidene)-1,2-diaminoethane], possesses the Ueff/k value of 22.0(0.4) K and the τ0 value of 4.6(0.1) × 10-8 s for the FR phase as well as the Ueff/k value of 205.7(4.4) K and the τ0 value of 1.7(0.2) × 10-9 s for the SR phase. Furthermore, the two complexes exhibit dual emission centered on not only the lanthanide(iii) ion but also the ligand in the visible region, of which the metal-centered emission is closely related to the length of the bis-imine chain on the salen ligand. The average fluorescence lifetime (τ) of 1 (10.6 ns) is an order of magnitude longer than that of 2 (0.86 ns).

  • A high ON/OFF ratio organic film for photo- and electro-dual-mode recording

    • 摘要:

      To improve the stability of organic multifunctional materials and enhance the ON/OFF ratio, a donor- π -acceptor molecule with the triphenylamine (TPA) unit is designed and synthesized. The TPA unit can effectively stabilize the charge transferred state, and the thin film shows excellent bistable electronic switching behavior with high ON/OFF current ratio of about 105. Meanwhile, reversible and stable nanometer-scale data storage is realized on the thin film by applying pulsed voltages, and optical information storage is achieved simultaneously by utilizing fluorescence changes under UV irradiation.

  • Two helical one-dimensional copper(II) coordination polymers based on N-(2-hydroxylbenzyl)glycine and N-(2-hydroxylbenzyl)-L-alanine

      Two new helical Cu(II) coordination polymers, [Cu(2,2′-bpy)(Hsgly)] Cl·2H2O(H2sgly = N-(2-hydroxylbenzyl)glycine) (1) and [Cu(2,2′-bpy)(Hsala)](NO3)·2H2O(H 2sala = N-(2-hydroxylbenzyl)-l-alanine) (2) were synthesized. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that both complexes showed helical chains arrangement of Cu(II) centers bridged by carboxyl groups. The magnetic measurements showed complex 1 exhibited ferromagnetic interaction while there was no interaction between the Cu(II) centers in complex 2.

  • Special fluorescence enhancement and aggregation in Langmuir-Blodgett films of 4,4′-dicyano-(3,4-dibutyl-2-thienylethynyl)biphenyl

      In this paper, we report the synthesis of a new rigid compound, 4,4′-dicyano-(3,4-dibutyl-2-thienylethynyl)biphenyl (1), as well as the preparation and spectroscopic characterizations of its Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films. Absorption and emission spectra have shown molecular aggregation of 1 in LB films. An unexpected irradiation-induced luminescence enhancement (IILE) was observed when these LB films were exposed under ultraviolet (UV) irradiation. Because no difference could be observed in UV-visible (UV-vis), fluorescence bands, infrared and X-ray diffraction spectra of these LB films before and after UV irradiations, changes of the molecular structure could be ruled out. But aggregates obtained with other methods, such as from water-tetrahydrofuran binary solution and solution casting films or dispersed microcrystals, did not show this IILE effect. This suggested that the IILE effect should be resulted from the special aggregation manner of 1 in the LB films.

  • Formation of the intermediate nitronyl nitroxide-anthracene dyad sensing saccharides

      We design a new saccharides sensor based on the ensemble of compound 2 with a boronic group and compound 3 with two phenolic -OH groups, taking advantage of the fluorescence quenching ability of nitronyl nitroxides and reversible boronate formation between boronic acid and diol. The results show that the fluorescence of compound 2 was largely quenched upon addition of compound 3 due to the formation of the intermediate nitronyl nitroxide-anthracene dyad 1. Sequential addition of saccharides such as fructose to the ensemble of compounds 2 and 3 together with dyad 1 induced the fluorescence enhancement. These results clearly demonstrate the possibility to employ the ensemble of compounds 2 and 3 (with dyad 1) to sense saccharides.

  • Flexible n-Type High-Performance Thermoelectric Thin Films of Poly(nickel-ethylenetetrathiolate) Prepared by an Electrochemical Method

      A study is conducted to prepare flexible n-type high-performance thermoelectric thin films of poly(nickel-ethylenetetrathiolate) by an electrochemical method. This process demonstrates that it is reasonable to searching ladder-type polymers with a narrow bandgap degenerate semiconducting character for organic thermoelectric materials (OTEs), as they are expected to possess high electrical conductivity and high Seebeck coefficient simultaneously like those of typical inorganic TEs. The linear coordination polymers formed by transition metal ions and ethylenetetrathiolate (ett) are ladder-like polymers, the absence of rotatable single-bond connections makes the polymer chain highly rigid, which facilitates the extension of the conjugation system through the polymer chain, and the intra-chain charge transport is expected to be highly efficient.

  • The interaction between conjugated polymer and fullerenes

      The fluorescence of Poly(2-methoxy,5-(2′-ethylhexloxy)-p-phenylene-vinylene) (MEH-PPV) quenched by fullerenes was examined, and the results indicate that this quenching is not dynamic. Strong interaction in the excited state between them may be caused by the photoinduced charge transfer and π-π conjugated system interaction. More direct and convincing evidence of the charge transfer complex are presented.
