As a major scientific output of the Workshop on Digital Earth Vision towards 2030 held by the International Society for Digital Earth on 20 July 2020, a vision article entitled “Digital earth: yesterday, today, and tomorrow” (International Journal of Digital Earth, 2023, Volume 16) was coauthored by the workshop participants from the ISDE Council and Working Groups with the help of representatives from International Science Council, IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society and other international organizations. Alessandro Annoni, the lead author of this article and the President of the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE), was invited to capture a short video to introduce the article with the purpose of enabling readers to have a better command of the evolution and achievements of Digital Earth.  The concept of Digital Earth was formalized long time ago when the technologies needed for its implementation were in an embryonic stage. Since then digital technologies have progressed significantly and their speed and pervasiveness have generated the digital transformation of our society. This creates new opportunities and challenges for the realization of Digital Earth. “What is Digital Earth today?”, “What could Digital Earth be in the future?” and “What is needed to make Digital Earth reality?”. To answer these questions, the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE) carried out an internal reflection. After two years of hard work the outcomes of this process have been included in the open access paper “Digital Earth: yesterday, today and tomorrow” published in the International Journal of Digital Earth in March. In this video, Alessandro Annoni, ISDE President shortly introduces the paper, explaining its origin and scope, the opinion of the reviewers, the view of the authors, and the main findings of the article.Alessandro Annoni is the President of the International Society for Digital Earth (ISDE). He has worked in the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre since 1997 as Head of the “Spatial Data Infrastructure” and “Digital Earth” Units. Under his leadership, these units carried out research on information infrastructures, including multidisciplinary interoperability, and supported the design and technical coordination of the INSPIRE Directive which sets out the rules for the creation of the European Spatial Data Infrastructure. For more about the paper “Digital earth: yesterday, today, and tomorrow”, please visit: https://doi.org/10.1080/17538947.2023.2187467 Digital Earth istarshine_translate: “数字地球:昨天,今天和明天” - 迈向2030年的数字地球愿景 作为国际数字地球协会于2020年7月20日举行的关于数字地球愿景研讨会的主要科学输出,题为“数字地球:昨天,今天和明天”的愿景文章(国际数字地球杂志,2023年,,第16卷)由ISDE理事会的研讨会参与者和国际科学委员会,IEEE地球科学和遥感社会和其他国际组织的代表的工作组合着。
