  • Efficient acousto-optically Q-switched intracavity Nd:YAG/KTiOAsO 4 optical parametric oscillator

      An efficient singly resonant intracavity optical parametric oscillator (OPO) is demonstrated based on a type II non-critically phase-matched KTiOAsO 4 (KTA) crystal. A diode-end-pumped acousto-optically (AO) Q-switched Nd:YAG laser is used as the pumping source. Under a LD power of 7.43 W and a pulse repetition rate of 15 kHz, we obtain a signal power of 0.93 W, corresponding to an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 12.5%. This is the highest efficiency reported for the intracavity KTA OPOs. Theoretical analysis on the power characteristics of the OPO is performed. It is proved from the theoretical results that the reflectivity of 63% at the signal wavelength (1535 nm) is a good selection for high average power and high conversion efficiency. © 2008 Springer-Verlag.

  • Angle amplifier based on multiplexed volume holographic gratings

    • 摘要:

      Angle amplifier of laser beam scanner is a widely used device in optical systems. Volume holographic optical elements can be applied in the angle amplifier. Compared with the traditional angle amplifier, it has the advantages of high angle resolution, high diffraction efficiency, small size, and high angle magnification and flexible design. Bragg angle-wavelength-compensating recording method is introduced. Because of the Bragg compensatory relation between angle and wavelength, this device could be recorded at another wavelength. The design of the angle amplifier recording at the wavelength of 514.2nm for the working wavelength of 632.8nm is described. An optical setup for recording the angle amplifier device is designed and discussed. Experimental results in the photorefractive crystal Fe:LiNbO3demonstrate the feasibility of the angle amplifier scheme.

  • 2.54 W 1535 nm KTiOAsO 4 optical parametric oscillator within a diode-side-pumped acousto-optically Q-switched Nd : YYYYAG laser

      We report a nanosecond singly resonant intracavity optical parametric oscillator (OPO) emitting at 1535 nm. This OPO is based on a type II non-critically phase-matched KTiOAsO 4 (KTA) crystal. A diode-side-pumped acousto-optically Q-switched Nd : YAG laser is used as the pumping source. With a laser diode power of 96.3 W and a pulse repetition rate of 10 kHz, we obtain a signal power of 2.54 W, corresponding to an optical-to-optical conversion efficiency of 2.6%. This is the highest efficiency reported for intracavity KTA OPOs with diode-side-pumping configurations. The pulse width is 5.01 ns and the peak power is 50.7 kW. The stability of the signal power is measured to be better than 3% during 2 h operation. © 2008 IOP Publishing Ltd.

  • Coexistent optical parametric oscillation and stimulated Raman scattering in KTiOAsO 4

      Coexistent optical parametric oscillation (OPO) and stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) are demonstrated in an X-cut KTiOAsO 4 (KTA) crystal. The 30-mm-long KTA crystal is placed within a diode-end-pumped acousto-optically (AO) Q-switched Nd:YAG laser cavity to construct an intracavity optical parametric oscillator. Coexistent Raman conversion of the fundamental wave is observed from the KTA crystal. With a diode power of 7.43 W and a pulse repetition rate (PRR) of 20 kHz, a signal (1535.0 nm) power of 0.92 W is obtained, corresponding to a diode-to-signal conversion efficiency of 12.4%. A first-Stokes (1091.4 nm) power of 0.17 W is obtained. © 2008 Optical Society of America.

  • A KTiOAsO 4 Raman laser

      Efficient nanosecond stimulated Raman scattering is observed in KTiOAsO 4 within an intracavity Raman laser configuration. A diode-end-pumped acousto-optically Q-switched Nd:YAG laser emitting at 1064.2 nm is employed as the pumping source. And efficient generation of the first-Stokes line at 1091.5 nm is observed. With an incident diode power of 8.11 W, a first-Stokes power of 1.38 W is obtained at a pulse repetition rate of 25 kHz, corresponding to a diode-to-Stokes conversion efficiency of 17%. The pulse width is 6.5 ns and the peak power is 8.5 kW. The performance characteristics of the device demonstrate that KTiOAsO 4 is competent and reliable for nanosecond Raman lasers. © 2009 Springer-Verlag.

  • A diode side-pumped KTiOAsO4 Raman laser

      A KTiOAsO4 Raman laser is realized within a diode side- pumped acousto-optically Q-switched Nd:YAG laser. Efficient nanosecond first-Stokes generations at 1091.4 nm are obtained with three 30-mm-long KTA crystals. Under an incident diode power of 60.9 W and a pulse repetition rate of 4 kHz, a first-Stokes power of 4.55 W is obtained, corresponding to a diode-to-Stokes conversion efficiency of 7.5%. The single pulse energy is up to 1.14 mJ and the peak power is 18.0 kW. © 2009 Optical Society of America.

  • Self-frequency-doubled KTiOAsO4 Raman laser emitting at 573 nm

      A self-frequency-doubled KTiOAsO4 (KTA) Raman laser is realized in a diode-end-pumped acousto-optically Q-switched intracavity Raman laser configuration. A 30-mm-long «-cut KTA crystal is used as the Raman medium, and its 671 cm-1 Raman mode is employed to finish the conversion from 1064 nm fundamental laser to 1146 nm Raman laser. Self-frequency doubling of the Raman laser is accomplished in the same KTA crystal, and a 573 nm yellow laser is obtained. With an incident diode power of 10.9 W and a pulse repetition rate of 20.8 kHz, a yellow-laser power of 0.82 W is obtained. The conversion efficiency from diode power to yellow-laser power is 7.5%. © 2009 Optical Society of America.

  • Achromatic phase retarder applied to MWIR & LWIR dual-band

      The development of the dual-band IR imaging polarimetry creates the need for achromatic phase retarder used in dual-band. Dielectric grating with the period smaller than the illuminating wavelength presents a strong form-birefringence. With this feature, the combination of several subwavelength gratings can be used as achromatic phase retarders. We proposed a combination of 4 subwavelength structured gratings (SWGs) used as an achromatic quarter-wave plate (QWP) applied to MWIR & LWIR bandwidths. Design method using effective medium theory and optimization algorithms is described in detail. The simulation results led to the possibility of an dual-band achromatic QWP whose retardance deviates from 90° by <±±0.75° with the fast axis unfixed and by <±±1.35° with the fast axis fixed over MWIR(3-5μ) & LWIR(8-12μ) bandwiths. © 2010 Optical Society of America.

  • Thermal fixing of photorefractive hologram in Ce: Fe: LiNbO3 and its relation to H+ concentration

      Procedures of recording and thermal fixing of photorefractive holograms in the crystal Ce: Fe: LiNbO3 are analyzed. The minimum ion concentration for thermal fixing in different recording conditions is discussed and for the first time at home a measurement method of H+ concentration is proposed. The experimental results in different conditions accord well with our theoretical analysis.

  • Growth and spectroscopic characterization of Zr:Fe:LiNbO3 crystals with various Li/Nb ratios

      In this paper, Zr:Fe:LiNbO3 crystals with various Li/Nb ratios were grown by the Czochralski method from melts having compositions varying between 48.6 and 58 mol% Li2O. X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), inductively coupled plasma optical emission/mass spectrometry (ICP-OE/MS), ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) absorption and the infrared (IR) spectrum were measured and are discussed in terms of the spectroscopic characterization. It was found that as the Li/Nb ratio increases in the melt, the Li/Nb ratio in the crystal also increases, the distribution coefficients of Fe and Zr ions decrease, the absorption edge shifts to a shorter wavelength, and the ZrO2 threshold concentration of the samples decreases. © 2010 Elsevier B.V.
